Tragic Loss: Faridabad Teen Allegedly Takes Their Own Life After Extended Standing Punishment at School

A 16-year-old student reportedly took her own life by jumping from the third-floor terrace of a private school located in the NIT area of Faridabad on Tuesday afternoon.

The student’s family claims that prior to the tragedy, she was punished by being made to stand outside her classroom for nearly four hours. However, school officials have denied these allegations, according to a police spokesperson.

The incident transpired between 1:00 and 1:30 PM, coinciding with the end of the school day. Following the fall, staff members quickly transported the student, who was in Class XI, to a nearby medical facility. She was later transferred to the district civil hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival due to her injuries.

The father of the teenager informed the police that his daughter had been subjected to a punishment that caused her considerable distress during school hours. He elaborated to reporters that there had been a disagreement among students earlier that day, leading to what he described as unjust disciplinary action against his daughter, which included standing outside the classroom for an extended period.

“She excelled academically and was her usual self when she left home for school,” he expressed to the media on Tuesday. “The humiliation from the punishment was unbearable for her.” He also mentioned that the family was not informed about the incident in a timely manner.

In response, the school has firmly rejected the claims of any mistreatment or the lengthy punishment prior to the tragic event, as stated by senior officials.

According to the police, the principal explained that the student had requested permission to use the restroom and was accompanied by a female staff member. However, she proceeded to the terrace and jumped before anyone could intervene.

The school management has stated it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Attempts to reach the principal for comments were unsuccessful, as no response was received from the call made by The Indian Express.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the school premises to establish the precise chain of events leading up to the incident.

Faridabad Police spokesperson SI Yashpal Yadav mentioned to The Indian Express that the parents submitted a request for a post-mortem examination early Wednesday; however, they have yet to file a formal complaint against the school.

“The post-mortem is scheduled to be completed later today,” he noted.

Law enforcement indicated that additional legal actions will be taken following the autopsy and upon receiving an official complaint from the family.
