Minneapolis law enforcement is currently addressing a shooting incident near 15 East Grant Street, which has resulted in multiple injuries, including those of two police officers, as indicated in a city notification. Residents have been advised to steer clear of the area as authorities manage the evolving situation.
The incident, occurring at the intersection of Nicollet and Grant, prompted a significant response from various law enforcement agencies, extending beyond the Minneapolis Police Department.
Officers and emergency vehicles from St. Louis Park, Edina, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol, transit police, and sheriff’s deputies from neighboring areas converged on the scene. Additionally, special agents from the St. Paul ATF field division were reported to have arrived as well.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the vicinity bounded by 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South.
The Minneapolis Police Department confirmed their presence at the shooting site near 15 E Grant St., where multiple individuals, including two officers, were affected. They reiterated the importance of avoiding the area and promised to release further details as they become available.
Governor Tim Walz stated, “My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on-site to assist local law enforcement, and we will share more information as it becomes available.”
The primary focus of the police response appeared to be an apartment complex on Grant Street, with officers equipped with long guns monitoring the building for an extended duration. Two heavily armored SWAT vehicles were positioned at the intersection, and ambulances were stationed throughout the immediate vicinity and along the block leading toward downtown.
Reports indicated that several stretchers were seen being taken from the building, with some individuals appearing to suffer from leg injuries, while the status of others remained unclear.
WCCO’s Conor Wight noted that a crowd had gathered in the area, with onlookers observing activity on the eighth floor of the complex, where residents were seen inside their windows while police assessed the situation.
