On Wednesday, authorities carried out the demolition of a three-story residence belonging to Naushad, the primary suspect in the illegal firecracker factory explosion in Manouri village, Kaushambi. In addition, a raid was conducted at a warehouse owned by his wife, Kahkashan Bano, located in the Muratganj market.
The tragic toll from the explosion has now reached 14 fatalities, following the death of 17-year-old Urvashi, who succumbed to her injuries while being treated at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Satya Narain Prajapat.
A collaborative effort between the Prayagraj Development Authority and Kaushambi Police resulted in the demolition of Naushad’s home, which officials stated had been built without the necessary building map approval and permits. The demolition process commenced at 6 PM on Tuesday and lasted for 11 hours, concluding with the structure’s collapse by 5 AM on Wednesday.
District Magistrate Amit Pal emphasized that rigorous action would persist against those breaching regulations.
Naushad was apprehended on Tuesday, and both his sister-in-law Shabana and niece Saina were also taken into custody. Law enforcement is actively pursuing three additional suspects—Shakeel, Adil, and Kahkashan Begum—and has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to their capture. The six individuals face charges under Sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 288 (negligent conduct involving explosives) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 4, 5, and 9-B of the Explosives Act.
