FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Thursday morning, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) reported an upward trend in its indices. The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) increased by 0.27 percent, marking a rise of 57.33 points to reach 21,382.97.
Similarly, the more active S&P SL20 index saw a gain of 0.42 percent, which translates to an increase of 25.18 points, bringing its total to 6,008.68.
Among the stocks contributing positively to the ASPI were John Keells Holdings, which rose by 1.03 percent to 19.70 rupees; Dialog Axiata, up 1.52 percent at 46.80 rupees; Haycarb, which surged by 3.33 percent to 209.75 rupees; Hayleys, increasing by 0.76 percent to 232.00 rupees; and Sampath Bank, which gained 0.36 percent to 139.00 rupees.
On the other hand, notable declines were observed in Colombo Land and Development Company, which fell by 5.14 percent to 46.10 rupees, and The Lanka Hospitals Corporation, which decreased by 2.65 percent to 110.00 rupees.
The market turnover for the day reached 95.52 million rupees, with the materials sector leading the way at 24.19 million rupees.
Additionally, Co-operative Insurance Company announced the redemption of 1,100,000 cumulative redeemable preference shares that were issued in December 2020 to the Health Department Co-Operative Thrift & Credit Society. The total redemption amount of 16.61 million rupees, which includes a cumulative dividend of 9 percent per annum, is scheduled for settlement on August 31, 2026.
