On Wednesday, Elon Musk’s super PAC revealed that it allocated more than $800,000 in the previous month to support Republican candidates for the Senate and House in key electoral battles, primarily in Texas and Maine, where GOP members are defending their Senate positions.
The spending by America PAC in August appears to be just the beginning for Musk, who has previously invested hundreds of millions to back President Trump and various Republican contenders for the upcoming 2024 elections. According to reports from The New York Times, Musk has approved more than $100 million in expenditures to assist Republican campaigns this November.
The reported figures reflect independent expenditures solely for August and target nearly all the anticipated competitive Senate races this election cycle, including Texas ($247,595), Maine ($170,224.29), Ohio ($105,675), New Hampshire ($91,458.50), Iowa ($54,600), Michigan ($25,605), and Alaska ($17,235).
Candidates and incumbents in competitive House districts across Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin have also benefited from America PAC’s financial support.
House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed to CBS News that he had met Musk during a campaign trip to Texas, where several House districts are contested alongside a closely watched Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. However, he did not disclose whether their discussion included the topic of funding for Republican efforts in the midterm elections.
“He’s made public a lot of what he’s doing. I’m going to talk about our conversation on that point, but we’re gonna win the midterms,” Johnson stated.
The expenditures disclosed on Wednesday were primarily earmarked for “PRINTING,” indicating that the funds were likely used for mail campaigns. The spending was overseen by Chris Young, a GOP strategist and former employee of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, who was appointed in 2024 to manage America PAC and its financial allocations.
In addition, America PAC has spent over $207,000 on digital advertising in Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maine, as reported by AdImpact and the Facebook ad library. Most of these ads serve as general reminders to vote, although one highlights New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani: “You couldn’t vote in his election, and socialism declared victory over America’s biggest city. If you don’t vote in November, socialism could declare victory over America.”
In total, America PAC has invested over $239 million to support Republican candidates for the 2024 elections. Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX, has emerged as the largest contributor in this election cycle for either political party, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.
When questioned in a past interview about whether he would maintain his current level of political spending, Musk responded, “I think in terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future. I think I’ve done enough.”
