Wrexham achieved their first victory in the Championship this season with a decisive 3-0 win over Millwall, who are struggling with injuries, on Wednesday.
Following draws against Cardiff and Watford, and a home defeat to Birmingham, Wrexham bounced back strongly in south London, reigniting their promotion aspirations after narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season.
The match saw Millwall’s defender Zak Sturge inadvertently score an own goal by deflecting Issa Kaboré’s cross into the net during the first half. Wrexham’s Kieffer Moore then struck from 20 yards shortly after the break, and Jacques Ekomié sealed the victory with a goal from close range.
Millwall, who began the season with two clean sheets against Bristol City and Norwich, have now conceded eight goals in just two matches, including a heavy 5-1 defeat to Southampton last Saturday. Their injury woes deepened with the loss of striker Josh Coburn and midfielder Casper De Norre during the match, just a day after Femi Azeez transferred to Brighton for £15 million.
In other Championship action, QPR’s Rumarn Burrell netted both goals in a 2-1 victory over Cardiff at Loftus Road, continuing their strong start to the season. Although Perry Ng managed to score for Cardiff, it was insufficient to prevent Julien Stéphan’s team from accumulating 10 points from their first four games.
Burnley, who are facing challenges after being relegated from the Premier League last season, secured just their second point from four matches by drawing 1-1 with Middlesbrough at Turf Moor. Ugo Raghouber scored his first goal for the club, equalizing in the 54th minute after Zeki Amdouni set him up. Middlesbrough had taken the lead in the 23rd minute with Aidan Morris’s stylish long-range goal, marking his first goal in over two years with the team.
Meanwhile, Charlton’s unbeaten run continued, albeit with a 1-1 draw against West Brom that ended their perfect record. They fell behind to a spectacular strike from Callum Styles just before the hour mark, but Tyreece Campbell equalized with a close-range finish in the 69th minute.
