Valeriya Kostyukovskaya, the Global Business and Marketing Manager for MX at Logitech, shared insights into the rationale behind the development of the MX Keypad. She noted that having a dedicated device designed for quick access to various tools, shortcuts, and automations is psychologically more manageable for users than relying on memory alone for these shortcuts.
Logitech International SA has introduced the MX Keypad as a revolutionary tool aimed at enhancing the monitoring and management of multiple AI agents across platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, VS Code, and IntelliJ IDEA, all from a single physical interface. This product is specifically designed for developers and programmers, minimizing dependence on conventional input devices like keyboards and mice while facilitating efficient multitasking.
The MX Keypad was developed in collaboration with GitHub, incorporating GitHub Copilot into VS Code, and offers an enticing three-month free trial of Copilot Pro+ for both new and existing users through Logi Options+. The keypad was launched on Tuesday and will be available in select markets, including India, the United States, and the United Kingdom, with a retail price of Rs 15,999 in India. It connects via USB-C and is compatible with macOS 13 or newer and Windows 10 or newer.
Kostyukovskaya emphasized the potential for AI integration, highlighting the device’s dynamic display keys that can showcase the status of different agents. This allows developers to focus on other tasks while AI tools handle a significant portion of coding work. “Developers can engage in documentation, research, communication, or meetings while the agent operates in the background. The keypad’s standalone design provides visual feedback, alerting them to any issues that need attention,” she stated during a video interview from Helsinki, Finland.
The MX Keypad features customizable shortcuts distributed across 15 pages, with nine LCD buttons on each page, enabling a total of 135 unique shortcuts. Users can easily configure commands by dragging and dropping functions onto various buttons or pages, including features like voice dictation and screenshot capabilities. The hardware interface allows for the simultaneous management and monitoring of multiple AI agents, with each application linked to a customizable plugin tailored for specific workflows.
“The keypad’s adaptability means developers no longer need to memorize shortcuts, as it adjusts to display the necessary tools for the active application. This functionality makes it easier to access emergency commands or tools, particularly during meetings,” Kostyukovskaya added.
The MX Keypad bears a strong resemblance to the MX Creative Console, which consists of a nine-key LCD keypad paired with a wireless dial pad. Although the Creative Console was launched in 2024 after Logitech’s acquisition of Loupedeck, the MX Keypad focuses on serving developers and coders, particularly in India, a country with a large software engineering workforce.
“Upon launching the Creative Console, we quickly identified multiple use cases for the keypad, with developers emerging as a primary audience. This product has been in the works for several years, inspired by a hackathon in Switzerland where we saw the rapid advancement of AI tools. We aimed to consolidate our functionality into a cohesive hardware offering,” she explained.
When a button is pressed, it can execute commands like tab completion, enabling AI-generated content generation and enhancing the input process. The keypad provides real-time status updates, indicating whether the AI is “thinking” or has “completed” a task, allowing users to interact with AI queries directly through the hardware without diverting their attention from the screen.
Kostyukovskaya highlighted the simplicity of the device’s design, aimed at developers accustomed to their workflows. “The minimalist form factor ensures it does not occupy excessive desk space while remaining functional and stylish,” she stated.
The MX Keypad serves as a specialized control hub, promoting workflow efficiency and reducing the need for constant screen switching. This is particularly beneficial for developers who can utilize the device to simultaneously manage numerous tasks. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the keypad is fully customizable and controllable.
“Currently, plugins and integrations are accessible through the Action Ring, a customizable virtual interface. However, for specific integrations, particularly those involving AI agents, simply adding another tab on the screen does not resolve the inherent friction. Users often find themselves juggling multiple tabs and remembering numerous commands,” she concluded.
