Simon Henderson, the headmaster of Eton College, warmly welcomed Prince George to the esteemed institution for his inaugural day, accompanied by his parents, Prince William and Princess Catherine.
Prince George has begun his journey at Eton College, following in his father’s footsteps, as Prince William attended the same prestigious school three decades earlier.
The arrival of the future king at the historic 600-year-old institution, which charges approximately $121,000 in annual tuition, was captured by cameras.
Meanwhile, Prince George’s younger cousins, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are also set to commence their education at new schools in the UK this month, although their specific school choices remain undisclosed.
On his first day at Eton, Prince George was seen alongside his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, who appeared at ease as they interacted with Mr. Henderson, the school’s headmaster.
Prince Harry, the future king’s uncle, is another notable figure who attended Eton, which is situated near Windsor Castle, west of London. This area is also home to Prince William, Catherine, and their two other children, Charlotte and Louis.
The all-boys boarding school, founded by King Henry VI in 1440, has tuition fees of around £65,000 ($121,000) each year.
Previously, Prince George was enrolled at Lambrook School, a private institution near Windsor, where he studied alongside his sister and younger brother.
As his cousins, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, prepare to start school this month, their school choices have not yet been made public.
Notably, Prince William was the first royal family member to attend Eton, while King Charles opted for Gordonstoun, the same private school in Scotland that his father, Prince Philip, attended.
Eton has a long-standing tradition of educating numerous political leaders in the country, with twenty British prime ministers, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron, having been alumni. The school is also known for having notable actors such as Hugh Laurie, Damian Lewis, and Tom Hiddleston among its former students.
Maintaining many of its longstanding customs, Eton students wear tailcoats, waistcoats, and gowns, while instructors are colloquially referred to as “beaks.”
Additionally, Prince George’s first day at Eton coincided with the fourth anniversary of the passing of his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
