Two recent initiatives aimed at enhancing financial literacy, tax knowledge, and business planning among salon owners and beauty professionals have been introduced with the support of DFCC Aloka.
The first initiative, hosted by the Institute of Hairdressers and Beauticians at Waters Edge, concentrated on the essential financial principles that underpin a thriving small business. Participants delved into topics such as financial management, banking practices, saving and investing, as well as understanding taxation and legal requirements.
The second initiative, the Salon Owners Entrepreneurship Development Programme, took place at the DFCC Bank Head Office and was designed to merge financial acumen with real-world industry insights.
Nayana Karunaratne, the Founder of the Institute of Hairdressers and Beauticians, collaborated with other experts to conduct sessions covering various subjects including business growth strategies, taxation, financial literacy, personal branding, investments in capital markets, and the DFCC Aloka Pragathi Loan Scheme.
These initiatives addressed the practical challenges faced by many entrepreneurs in service-oriented sectors. While technical skills and customer trust are critical in establishing a salon, ongoing success and expansion require a solid grasp of cash flow management, financial record-keeping, taxation, investment strategies, and comprehensive business planning.
Participants were provided with a platform to engage in discussions about the daily operations of their businesses with financial and industry experts. By combining these insights, DFCC Aloka aims to empower women entrepreneurs to not only address the immediate challenges of today but also to strategically prepare their businesses for future growth.
