The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that various regions in Karnataka will experience light to moderate rainfall over the upcoming days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. The state’s capital, Bengaluru, is also expected to see some light rain.

As per the latest weather update, South Interior Karnataka is forecasted to receive rain from Tuesday to Thursday, while Coastal Karnataka may witness rainfall on October 1 and 2. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are anticipated in North Interior Karnataka over the next 48 hours.

The weather agency has warned of winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h, which could occasionally escalate to 50 km/h, along with thunderstorms and lightning in the affected regions.

Agumbe district has been placed under a yellow alert, expecting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h over the next two days. Heavy rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms and strong winds, is projected for October 1 and 2 in this area.

Hassan is similarly under a yellow alert for the next three days, with the weather department predicting substantial rainfall.

Chandurayanghalli has also been issued a yellow alert for Tuesday, anticipating heavy rain in the vicinity.

The IMD’s Bengaluru office has identified Chandurayanghalli and several other locations in Karnataka as part of its monitored weather stations.

Mysuru, on the other hand, does not have a rain alert for Tuesday. However, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday and Thursday, predicting heavy rainfall on both days. The city is also expected to remain predominantly overcast during the day.

Warnings for various districts and subdivisions have been issued by the weather department covering the period from September 29 to October 2, addressing rainfall and thunderstorm activities throughout Karnataka.

Data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre indicates that the state is experiencing one of its most challenging monsoon seasons in recent years. Rainfall during September has been particularly deficient, showcasing the most significant shortfall compared to earlier months in the monsoon cycle.

Karnataka has recorded a 67% shortage in rainfall for September thus far, receiving only 35 mm against a normal of 107 mm. The deficit was 42% in June, with 116 mm received compared to a normal of 199 mm. In July, rainfall was 29% below normal at 192 mm, while August experienced a 23% deficit, recording 169 mm against a normal of 220 mm.
