FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – On Tuesday, the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka experienced a decline, according to data from the CSE. The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) fell by 0.60 percent.

The ASPI decreased by 125.97 points, settling at 20,817.82. In contrast, the more actively traded S&P SL20 index saw a slight dip of 0.20 percent, or 12.06 points, ending at 5,908.66.

Market sentiment remained weak, as previous gains were perceived as already accounted for. Ongoing global uncertainties continued to suppress trading activity, noted Raynal Wickremeratne, Head of Research and Strategy at NDB Securities.

Among the stocks that positively influenced the ASPI were Lion Brewery (Ceylon), which rose by 2.80 percent to reach 1,800.25 rupees, Carson Cumberbatch, increasing by 1.88 percent to 730.00 rupees, and Ambeon Holdings, which gained 0.86 percent to 35.00 rupees.

On the other hand, several stocks negatively impacted the index, including Overseas Realty (Ceylon), which fell by 2.29 percent to 51.30 rupees, Singer (Sri Lanka), decreasing by 2.19 percent to 76.00 rupees, Dialog Axiata, which dropped by 0.65 percent to 45.80 rupees, and Commercial Bank of Ceylon, down by 0.37 percent to 203.25 rupees.

The total market turnover was recorded at 1.01 billion rupees, with the capital goods sector leading the way at 198.93 million rupees, followed by real estate management and development, which accounted for 171.61 million rupees.

In a separate update, Bimputh Lanka Investments PLC announced that its court-appointed liquidator has requested statements of affairs from the company’s directors and has submitted a preliminary liquidation report. This comes as the company’s legal challenge against a winding-up order is still pending before the Supreme Court.
