Bradley Gavin Knoesen, a 31-year-old man from the UK, has been denied bail following accusations of animal cruelty in the Goldfields region of Western Australia.

Authorities have accused Mr. Knoesen, who is in Australia on a working holiday visa, of drowning a dog before subsequently beating it after it was momentarily revived.

Mr. Knoesen has yet to enter a plea regarding the charge of causing unnecessary harm to an animal and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 12.

During a brief court session held in Kalgoorlie, located approximately 600 kilometers east of Perth, it was revealed that Mr. Knoesen allegedly drowned a one-year-old kelpie named Faith after consuming a significant amount of alcohol with his cousin on September 23. Witnesses reported that he laughed and smiled while the dog was submerged, rendering it unresponsive.

Prosecutors indicated that the dog attempted to swim to safety, but Mr. Knoesen reportedly pulled it back under the water. According to court testimony, a witness was able to perform CPR and revive the dog, but afterward, Mr. Knoesen allegedly declared the animal “brain dead” and struck it with a glass bottle.

Following this, he purportedly tied the dog’s body to a motorbike and dragged it through the bushland near Kalgoorlie. The ownership of the dog was not established in court, although it was noted that the witness led authorities to the site of the dog’s remains.

The court was informed that Mr. Knoesen is in Western Australia on a six-month visa. Senior Constable Ian Southall argued against granting bail, citing concerns that he might attempt to leave the country if released.

Magistrate Donna Webb denied bail, emphasizing the serious nature of the allegations. Mr. Knoesen is expected to return to court on October 12.

Requests for comment have been made to the RSPCA and the Department of Home Affairs.
