Nigel Farage has asserted that Andy Burnham has provided him with a significant boost in his political career by rekindling discussions surrounding Brexit. The leader of Reform UK remarked that this development has opened up new opportunities for his party.

Burnham’s recent commitments made at the Labour conference, coupled with his acknowledgment on Wednesday that rejoining the EU is a possibility the government is considering, have reinvigorated Farage’s position in the ongoing debate.

Looking relaxed and sun-kissed prior to his party’s first major rally since last month’s conference, Farage expressed to reporters his eagerness to revisit the strategies utilized during the 2016 referendum.

He dismissed recent polls indicating that up to 59% of the public supports rejoining the EU, stating, “People may say they are in favor until they realize it could cost £25 billion annually, require joining Schengen, and would necessitate a commitment to the euro.”

Farage emphasized that since 2016, the pro-Brexit camp has not effectively communicated its arguments, while proponents of remaining in the EU have consistently made their case. He opined that Burnham’s recent comments could be a significant miscalculation politically.

Speaking before a rally in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, the first of several planned events focusing on what Reform UK would achieve in its first 100 days in power, Farage noted that he believes Burnham’s new stance on the EU is an attempt to attract voters from the Green Party in larger cities. However, he believes it unwittingly exposes vulnerabilities for Labour in areas like Doncaster and the wider ‘red wall’ regions of the North and Midlands.

As he addressed the crowd of enthusiastic Reform supporters at the Doncaster racecourse, Farage declared, “Today marks the beginning of our general election campaign.” He received a particularly warm reception when he expressed his eagerness to confront Burnham on the subject of rejoining the EU in these constituencies, stating, “Bring it on, I say.”

Farage further remarked, “He might have just given me the greatest boost of my career. Thank you, Andy, if you’re watching.”

The rally, themed “100 days to save Britain,” was organized prior to Burnham’s remarks regarding UK-EU relations. Nonetheless, sources within Reform UK have indicated that the Prime Minister’s statements have motivated the party, with certain donors already exploring ways to finance a revival of the 2016 campaign.

In addition, Farage hinted that an internal investigation regarding a controversy over donations that has plagued the party this year would likely clear two key staff members, and that legal action might be pursued against journalists involved in the matter.

Indicating prior knowledge of the investigation’s conclusions, Farage stated that the report’s release is forthcoming and warned, “It’s been completed. It will be made public very soon, and I think some of your co-conspirators may face legal challenges.”

The Reform party faced significant turmoil just before its conference when undercover footage aired on Channel 4 News, showing some of Farage’s team allegedly scheming to circumvent electoral laws governing foreign donations.

Investigative journalists from Verbatim, established by the Centre for Climate Reporting, posed as potential supporters of Reform, including a wealthy American father who unlawfully funded £30,000 worth of polling that benefited the party.

The footage from Channel 4 News revealed that the fake UK supporter engaged in discussions with Reform’s head of policy, James Orr, about polling being financed by the American father. Another segment displayed Dan Jukes, a senior adviser to Farage, suggesting to the fictitious supporter that his father could make a significant contribution by routing the funds through him.

While Jukes has denied any wrongdoing, Orr has stated his willingness to fully cooperate with the party’s internal inquiry. The Metropolitan Police are currently conducting a criminal investigation into Reform UK following allegations of violations of foreign funding regulations.
