A 75-year-old man from Thane, identified as Gopalakrishna Subbaiya Pillai, tragically passed away from a heart attack while attending a protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Shivaji Park on Thursday evening, according to local authorities.
Pillai, who lived in Dosti West County, arrived at the venue around 4:30 PM to participate in the demonstration. Approximately half an hour later, as he neared Gate No. 6, he began to feel unwell and reported experiencing chest pains.
His friend, along with police officers stationed at the event, quickly came to his assistance. A physician who was on-site provided initial medical care before Pillai was transported to Sushrusha Hospital, situated near Shivaji Park.
Unfortunately, despite receiving treatment, his health continued to decline, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities confirmed that medical staff determined the cause of death to be a heart attack.
The police stated, “An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been filed. The body has been returned to the family, who have expressed no objections.”
This incident occurred amidst a gathering of participants at Shivaji Park for the CJP protest on that Thursday.
