On Friday, authorities in Delhi implemented traffic restrictions and modified metro services in anticipation of a planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar, aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Prohibitory measures have been enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), further intensifying security protocols in the vicinity of Jantar Mantar.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the closure of 11 metro stations, including Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Seva Teerth, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, and New Delhi. Despite these closures, the DMRC confirmed that interchange services would remain operational at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, INA, New Delhi, and Central Secretariat stations.

In addition to the metro restrictions, the Delhi Police has refused to grant permission for the protest organized by the All India Students’ Association (AISA), along with Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha and Supreme Court attorney Prashant Bhushan, set to commence at 11 AM on Friday.

To ensure safety, both Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Delhi Police personnel have been deployed at Jantar Mantar and other strategic locations within the New Delhi district. Barricades have been erected, and extra officers have been stationed at various entry and exit points.

Reports indicate that the gathering could attract between 3,000 to 4,000 participants, prompting heightened security measures in the area. The protestors are demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, citing alleged discrepancies in electoral rolls and the overall management of elections.
