Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian pilot currently recuperating after successfully preventing a crisis aboard a flydubai flight that was en route from Dubai to Israel.
During a video conversation with the Prime Minister, Captain Smit shared that chanting a prayer provided him solace during the ordeal. He expressed, “Whenever I experience pain, I recite the Hanuman Chalisa. Even at that moment, I continued to chant the Hanuman Chalisa,” as he spoke to PM Modi.
In a recorded segment of their discussion, PM Modi commended Smit for his bravery, quick thinking, and calm demeanor, which were pivotal in safeguarding numerous lives on the flight.
The Prime Minister reassured Captain Smit by saying, “The entire nation is praying for your recovery. The Maha Mrityunjay Jaap is being performed on your behalf…”
On Friday, Modi called to check on Smit’s well-being, lauding him for his valor and mental fortitude. He remarked that Smit’s decisive actions were instrumental in saving many lives.
Modi emphasized, “The whole country is sending prayers your way. Your bravery and composure have made us proud. Indians are not those who take lives but are individuals willing to endanger their own to protect others.”
Feeling moved during the conversation, Smit expressed his admiration for Modi, stating that he had never anticipated having the chance to speak with the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged Smit’s mother, Geeta Ben, noting her role in instilling strong values and teachings from the Bhagavad Gita in her son.
