Michael Zheng and Angela Wang, a married couple, tragically lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident in Ledcourt on Sunday evening.

A friend of the couple remarked on their promising future in Australia, highlighting their aspirations to start a family.

The authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Friends and colleagues have expressed their sorrow over the loss of the two Chinese nationals involved in the fatal incident in western Victoria, which resulted in three fatalities.

The couple, aged 38 and 31 respectively, died at the scene after their vehicle collided with a Mitsubishi Triton and a truck around 6:45 PM on September 27. A 14-year-old passenger in the Mitsubishi, driven by a learner driver, succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital.

Michael and Angela, who had recently celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary, resided in Horsham, located approximately 300 kilometers west of Melbourne.

Friends described them as “wonderful individuals” with “great hopes for their future in Australia.” Mr. Zheng had recently been promoted to manager at the Horsham Dentist Group, while Ms. Wang worked as a nurse at Grampians Health.

JingJing Tang, who met the couple last year while assisting them in searching for their lost dog, shared her memories of them. “There was an instant bond between us as fellow Chinese residents, and they affectionately called me ‘jie,’ meaning ‘older sister’ in Chinese,” she recounted.

Ms. Tang characterized them as a lovely young couple, noting that they had obtained Australian permanent residency the previous year. She recalled their excitement about establishing a life in Australia and their plans to build a new home in Ballarat, as well as their dreams of starting a family.

“It’s heartbreaking that their journey has come to such an abrupt end,” Ms. Tang expressed. “I hope they are together in heaven, continuing the dreams they had envisioned.”

Simon Yan, a colleague of Mr. Zheng, mentioned that the team was taken aback when they did not hear from him on Monday, as he was always prompt in his responses, even during weekends. “We began to inquire about him after work, which is when we first learned about the crash,” Dr. Yan said.

Friends of Ms. Wang visited the couple’s home to check on them, and the prolonged wait for identification proved torturous. “The uncertainty was agonizing, yet we clung to the hope that it might not be them,” Dr. Yan shared.

Since the news broke, Dr. Yan described himself as emotionally devastated. “It’s been difficult to sleep; I often wake up during the night,” he said, reflecting on his grief.

Dr. Yan remembered Mr. Zheng as a kind-hearted individual who had become an integral part of the dental team since March of the previous year. “He was always our support system, our rock. It’s hard to fathom moving forward without him,” he lamented.

Catherine Feng, the owner of the clinic, expressed the collective sorrow of the team upon receiving the tragic news. “When we saw the descriptions, our hearts dropped. I was in shock and disbelief, especially after holding onto hope regarding the unidentified individuals involved,” Dr. Feng recalled. “We all broke down in tears when we learned the truth.”

Colleagues described Mr. Zheng as a dedicated manager who was well-liked by everyone. “Every day feels a bit emptier without him here. We all expected to see him smiling like he did every day,” Dr. Feng noted. She added that although they had never met Ms. Wang, her husband frequently spoke of her with affection.

Tributes also poured in for Tenesha Fieldsend, the teenage victim. Her volleyball coach honored her memory, describing her as “bubbly, bright, and energetic.”

Tenesha, who hailed from Sale, was returning from a volleyball tournament in Horsham with her family when the accident occurred. She had represented LaTrobe Valley Volleyball at the Victorian junior country championships, where her team secured a bronze medal in the under-17 girls division.

Sale Catholic College, Tenesha’s school, released a statement mourning her loss, expressing that she was a cherished member of the year 8 cohort and her absence would be deeply felt by her friends, classmates, teachers, and the broader school community. “In this challenging time, we unite as a community to support each other with compassion and kindness, while remembering the joy Tenesha brought to those around her,” the statement read.

Victoria Police have confirmed that the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
