Sri Lanka’s Sampath Bank intends to secure up to 50 billion rupees by issuing Tier 2 debentures that comply with Basel III regulations, as well as green bonds or sustainability bonds.

The bank plans to offer up to 500 million of these listed, rated, unsecured, subordinated, redeemable instruments, each priced at 100 rupees.

According to a recent market announcement, the proposed financial instruments will include a non-viability conversion feature.

The capital will be raised in one or multiple phases over a period of three years following the approval from shareholders.

The bank stated, “Each issuance approved by shareholders will proceed only after receiving all necessary regulatory approvals and ensuring that other terms and conditions are satisfactory to the Bank.”

This issuance is contingent upon receiving the required regulatory endorsements. (Colombo/Oct01/2026)
