Sangeetha Sornalingam, the wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, made an uncommon public appearance on Friday when she and her daughter, Divya Saasha, attended the premiere of her son Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, Sigma, at Kamala Cinemas in Chennai. This outing occurs approximately two months after Sangeetha retracted her divorce petition against Vijay.

Footage captured outside the cinema showed Sangeetha and Divya arriving for the early screening of Sigma, which premiered on October 2. Sangeetha greeted photographers with a smile as they entered the venue. She was dressed in a cream suit adorned with a golden border, while Divya chose a casual black T-shirt paired with jeans.

Jason also joined his mother and sister at the theater for the release of his first film as a director. This event marks Sangeetha’s first notable public engagement since the recent developments regarding her marriage.

Notably absent from the screening was Vijay, who has also refrained from participating in the film’s promotional activities. Jason had previously stated that his father would not be involved in promoting Sigma, expressing his desire for the attention to remain focused on the film and its cast rather than his father’s celebrity status. Jason remarked, “My father is waiting for the release of Sigma. He won’t be promoting my film. I want the promotions to be about the film and not him. I don’t want it to overlap. And he’s become CM now, so he has so many responsibilities. He’s waiting to see what I’ve done and is very excited.”

In an interview prior to the film’s release, Jason shared his expectations regarding his father’s reaction to Sigma, describing Vijay as someone who takes his time before forming an opinion. “My dad is usually a quiet person. He takes his time. If I ask a question, he’ll take 10 seconds to respond. If he’s quiet all the while, I’ll ask, ‘Did you cut the call, Appa?’ Think, come to your conclusion, and then call me, email me, or something,” he explained. Jason expressed understanding that film appreciation often necessitates more time than a quick conversation, and he anticipates Vijay will eventually share his thoughts on the film. “I think you need more time to analyse the film. But he’ll like the film. He’ll be proud,” he concluded.

Sangeetha and Vijay’s marriage faced public scrutiny earlier this year when she filed for divorce in February 2026, alleging Vijay’s involvement in an extramarital affair, which she claimed had caused her significant emotional distress. In her petition, she cited various grounds for divorce, including emotional neglect, public humiliation, mental cruelty, and constructive desertion, and sought permanent alimony and residential rights.

On August 7, 2026, Sangeetha withdrew the divorce petition, appearing via video conference before the Chengalpattu Family Court to express her intention to discontinue the proceedings. She submitted a formal withdrawal request. The couple, who wed in 1999, share two children: Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.

Directed by Jason Sanjay, Sigma features Sundeep Kishan in the lead role as Guru, a treasure hunter and radio host whose life is shattered by betrayal. The film also stars Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Raju Sundaram, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan, and Yog Japee. Sigma has been produced by Subaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions and is available in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
