The Flight Training division of SriLankan Airlines has successfully executed a specialized Line Flying Under Supervision (LFUS) program for six senior training and examination pilots from Etihad Airways. This initiative highlights Etihad Airways’ trust in the training and operational expertise of SriLankan Airlines, while also enhancing the collaborative relationship between the two national airlines.
Participants in the program included five Type Rating Examiners (TREs) and one Senior Type Rating Examiner (STRE) from Etihad Airways. The program utilized the skills of SriLankan Airlines’ flight instructors, seasoned flight crews, and operational support teams, ensuring a secure, efficient, and professionally fulfilling training environment for the visiting pilots.
Captain Chaminda De Zoysa, who oversees Flight Operations at SriLankan Airlines, remarked on the achievement of the program, stating, “This opportunity signifies more than just a training event for SriLankan Airlines. It showcases our capability to utilize our Airbus A330 fleet, skilled instructors, and well-established training infrastructure to aid in the advancement of aviation professionals from leading global airlines. This initiative also emphasizes the potential of our Flight Training division to act as a regional aviation training hub, providing specialized and high-quality training services to international operators.”
The successful execution of the program was the result of thorough planning and coordination by SriLankan Airlines, with support from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), the Ministry of Defence, and other relevant bodies, which facilitated the establishment of the necessary framework and acquisition of required approvals for the program’s smooth implementation.
Through such initiatives, SriLankan Airlines continues to illustrate that its expertise extends beyond flight operations to encompass the development of aviation professionals globally, positioning Sri Lanka as a regional hub for professional aviation training.
