Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced on Friday an extension of the free bus travel initiative for women, which will now serve over 8.4 million female passengers.

The initiative, known as the ‘Vettri Payanam’ scheme, has been broadened to include women from all income brackets and eliminates restrictions on the number of daily trips. This announcement was made in conjunction with the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti.

According to reports from PTI, the state government stated that the revised scheme will benefit 8.4 million women, allowing them to access a range of transportation options, including ‘deluxe’ and ‘express’ bus services.
