On September 30, a young man reportedly struck a sub-inspector from the Bihar Police’s Police Didi unit during a confrontation in the Khemnichak area of Patna, as stated by police officials on Thursday. The individual, named Pradeep Kumar and aged 22, has been apprehended, while law enforcement is actively searching for two additional suspects connected to the incident.

According to Patna Sadar-02 SDPO Manoj Kumar, the altercation occurred around 6:30 PM near Subhash Nagar Mor in Khemnichak, when a Police Didi team was conducting their routine evening patrol.

The incident was recorded on video, showing the sub-inspector halting her scooter as three young men passed by. One of them, who appeared to be carrying a plastic bag, turned around and approached her, while the other two remained at a distance. Subsequently, four other female police officers arrived on scooters in intervals and approached the scene. As the young man began to walk away, the sub-inspector confronted him, which led to him allegedly slapping her. Despite attempts by another youth and the police personnel to intervene, a physical struggle ensued before the situation calmed down.

Kumar explained that the police team had stopped the three young men due to their suspicious behavior and had begun questioning them about their identities. During this interaction, one of the youths reportedly behaved inappropriately toward the Police Didi officer, resulting in a physical confrontation. When other officers tried to detain him, all three youths escaped into the crowd.

According to a police source, the three young men had allegedly made mocking remarks directed at the female officers, which escalated into the physical altercation following the sub-inspector’s response. An FIR was filed on Wednesday against the three unidentified suspects under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to offenses such as outraging a woman’s modesty, criminal intimidation, and wrongful restraint.

The police have utilized CCTV footage from the area to identify Pradeep, a resident of Dupantola in Khushrupur, who is also a tenant in Subhash Nagar. “He has been taken into custody,” the SDPO confirmed, noting that efforts to locate the other two suspects are ongoing.

This incident follows a spate of videos depicting alleged harassment and assault against women that have emerged from various regions in Bihar over the past week, putting law enforcement agencies on high alert across several districts.

The Police Didi initiative, established in December 2025 by former Home Minister Samrat Choudhary, aimed to deploy special squads around educational institutions to combat eve-teasing. Just prior to this event in Patna, the Bihar government had expanded the operational reach of these Police Didi teams, which are designated to patrol areas frequently visited by women and girls.
