In the wake of the tragic stabbing death of a first-year Bachelor of Commerce student near his private college, Bengaluru police have determined that the incident stemmed from a dispute between two classmates, reportedly revolving around a female student. This revelation was made public on Saturday.

The authorities have apprehended three minors and arrested a 19-year-old man named Manoj in connection with the homicide, while the primary suspect, Bhuvan, remains at large.

The victim, 19-year-old Yogesh Papanna, who attended Mahesh PU College in Nagarbhavi, was allegedly called outside the institution and assaulted fatally by a group that included his classmate, Bhuvan.

According to police sources, Bhuvan is currently evading capture, with the other individuals involved being either his acquaintances or friends. Initial inquiries suggest that Bhuvan had developed an interest in a female student, who had rebuffed his advances. Authorities believe that Yogesh may have made disparaging remarks about the girl, which incited Bhuvan and led to the violent altercation.

“Our preliminary findings indicate that the incident is related to a matter involving a female student. We are interrogating the detained individuals to clarify their specific involvement and are actively working to locate Bhuvan,” stated Yathish N, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), during a press briefing.

The confrontation reportedly took place on September 30 at around 2 PM, when Bhuvan allegedly summoned Yogesh to a location near a gym situated behind the college. Upon Yogesh’s arrival, Bhuvan and his associates purportedly instigated a fight, which escalated to the point where Yogesh was stabbed in the chest, according to police accounts.

Bystanders quickly transported the injured student to a local private hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.

The three minors who were detained have since been placed in a juvenile facility, as confirmed by law enforcement officials.
