BJP Protests in Amritsar, Calls for CBI Investigation into Warehouse Official’s Tragic Suicide

On Saturday, members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gathered in Amritsar at Hall Gate to protest for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, an official with the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC).

The protest was led by Sunil Jakhar, the state president of the BJP, along with Union Minister Ravneet Singh, and other prominent figures from the party, including working president Ashwani Sharma, national general secretary Tarun Chugh, and the entire state and local leadership.

Jakhar emphasized the party’s commitment to advocating for justice for Randhawa’s family, demanding “nothing less than a CBI inquiry” to reveal the truth behind the case, which includes allegations of extortion involving former Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. “All those involved, including Bhullar, must be held accountable,” he asserted.

During the demonstration, the Punjab BJP chief highlighted the serious nature of their cause, stating, “This is not merely political; it is a quest for justice that could affect anyone.” He commended the victim’s family for their bravery in the face of “significant government pressure.”

Bittu, another BJP leader, voiced his disappointment regarding Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring’s unwillingness to support a joint request for a CBI investigation. “It was previously agreed that all Punjab MPs would unite in demanding this inquiry. At a time when the family seeks justice, such hesitance is troubling. The Congress party needs to clarify its position,” Bittu remarked.

He also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its representatives for their apparent lack of response. The Union Minister urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to promptly initiate the investigation in light of the “serious allegations” and the family’s desperate appeals.

Bittu expressed concerns that the state apparatus may be protecting influential individuals, including Bhullar, who is accused of receiving preferential treatment. “Every MP from Punjab, including those from AAP, must endorse the request to ensure justice is served,” he stated.

Jakhar further described Mann as a “compromised” and “nominal Chief Minister,” asserting that the real governance of Punjab is in the hands of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. “The people of Punjab have made it clear that this state belongs to Punjabis, and we will not allow outsiders to exploit our resources,” he concluded.
