Bhuvneshwar Kumar of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru has made history by becoming the first fast bowler to achieve 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This milestone was reached when he dismissed Chennai Super Kings’ Ayush Mhatre for a mere single run on Sunday. Kumar is the second bowler overall to reach the 200-wicket milestone, following Punjab Kings’ Yuzvendra Chahal.

Kumar made his IPL debut in 2011, with his standout season being in 2017 when he claimed 26 wickets. So far in the current season, he has taken two wickets. Throughout his IPL journey, he has played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Pune Warriors, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He remains the only player in IPL history to win the Purple Cap in consecutive seasons, securing 23 wickets in 2016 and 26 in 2017. Last season, he contributed 17 wickets, playing a key role in RCB’s historic title run in 2025.

The swing bowling specialist has now joined the elite 200-wicket club, marking a significant achievement in his career.

In another exciting match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru showcased a formidable batting display, scoring an impressive 250 runs for the loss of three wickets against Chennai Super Kings, marking the highest total of the current IPL season. Devdutt Padikkal and Tim David both delivered strong performances, with Padikkal scoring 50 runs off just 29 balls, while opener Philip Salt contributed 46 runs from 30 balls.

Captain Rajat Patidar added a quickfire 48 runs off 19 deliveries, and Tim David exploded for 70 runs off only 25 balls, combining with Patidar to amass 99 runs in just 36 balls, propelling RCB to a daunting total.

For Chennai Super Kings, bowlers Shivam Dube (1/30), Anshul Kamboj (1/52), and Jamie Overton (1/42) each took a wicket. Earlier, CSK captain Gaikwad opted to bowl after winning the toss, and both teams remained unchanged for the match.
