Consumers allowed to purchase 5-kg LPG cylinders from authorized agencies with valid ID, eliminating address verification; sale from storage facilities prohibited.

The Delhi government announced on Sunday that consumers can now obtain 5-kg LPG cylinders from gas agencies by presenting a valid identification document, eliminating the requirement for address verification. Additionally, the government has imposed a complete prohibition on the sale of cylinders directly from storage facilities. This initiative is particularly designed to enhance access to cooking fuel for migrant workers and temporary residents.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reported the establishment of a dedicated control room aimed at combating illegal practices such as hoarding and black market activities. To support migrant workers further, 11 specialized help desks have been introduced at select HPCL locations, offering information about nearby distributors, according to the government. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have also instructed distributors that any sales from storage facilities are deemed illegal and will lead to stringent consequences.

The authorities reassured residents that the LPG supply in the capital remains stable and under vigilant monitoring. They advised the public to avoid crowding at gas agencies or storage locations, as cylinders ordered by consumers are being delivered directly to their residences within the expected timeframe.

“The LPG supply in Delhi is completely stable and well-managed. We urge citizens to remain calm, disregard rumors, and collaborate with the administration while utilizing the established delivery system,” stated CM Gupta.

Referencing data from April 4, the government revealed that there were 114,679 LPG bookings in Delhi, with 131,335 cylinders successfully delivered. This discrepancy indicates that the system is effectively addressing outstanding demand, ensuring a smooth supply process. Currently, the average delivery time for domestic LPG cylinders is 4.24 days.

In terms of enforcement, the government has intensified efforts, with Delhi Police conducting raids at 17 different locations. Officials from the Food Supplies department have also inspected 76 gas agencies and storage facilities.
