A late-night ride in an auto-rickshaw transformed into a poignant experience for a passenger after an engaging dialogue with the driver left a deep impact. A video posted by Instagram user Nikhil captures a serene moment from the backseat of the vehicle.
In the widely shared clip, the driver appears calm and attentive as he skillfully maneuvers through the streets. A caption states, “Today my auto wale bhaiya taught me something unexpected.” The driver, likely in his late 50s or early 60s, continues to work long hours despite his age.
Intrigued, the passenger inquired about the driver’s motivation to keep working so diligently at this stage of his life. The driver explained that his employment had shifted from being a means of income to a way to fill his time. He shared insights about his personal life, revealing that he had been married for over three decades and has three daughters, each residing in different cities.
For many years, his routine involved returning home late at night to a wife who would eagerly await his arrival, ready to inquire about his day and serve him dinner. However, he now finds himself alone following the passing of his wife.
As the ride neared its conclusion, the passenger asked if he was on his way home. The driver smiled and mentioned that he planned to drive for a bit longer. When questioned about his reasoning, he responded, “One feels like going home when there’s someone waiting for you there.”
The video has struck a chord with numerous social media users, eliciting a variety of emotional responses. One viewer remarked, “Some people don’t stay out because they love the noise… they stay because silence at home feels louder.” Another shared, “Since I moved to Canada, I avoid going home because I can’t stand the silence. I only return when I’m completely exhausted and can just collapse into bed.”
A third user empathized, stating, “I can feel his pain. It speaks volumes about how much he misses his wife. His loss is not something that can easily be healed, but I hope he encounters kind-hearted individuals who can bring him comfort each day.”
