As the conflict continues in West Asia, Iran has taken to social media to mock US President Donald Trump through various memes and sarcastic remarks. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has been sharing these derisive memes on X, appearing to react to Trump’s statements on Truth Social.
Iranian embassies globally have also participated in this trend, disseminating critical and satirical messages directed at the United States. Diplomatic missions in locations such as Pretoria and Kabul have actively engaged in mocking both the US and Trump in light of the ongoing hostilities that escalated on February 28.
On March 30, the Iranian embassy in South Africa posted a meme on X, following news of a US Air Force E-3 Sentry aircraft’s involvement in an Iranian strike on a Saudi airbase. Subsequently, on April 2, the embassy shared another image insinuating that the US was merely making threats without any real action. This post included a fictional dialogue among various nations regarding Trump’s assertion that the Strait of Hormuz had been shut down.
The humorous exchange depicted Trump demanding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, with responses from leaders of other countries expressing confusion over the situation. The embassy concluded the post with a sarcastic remark from China, stating, “Open… we just passed through!” followed by a disheartened emoji from Trump.
Other Iranian embassies quickly followed suit. For instance, the embassy in Zimbabwe responded to Trump’s warning about reopening the Strait of Hormuz with a tweet humorously claiming, “We have lost the keys.” Meanwhile, the embassy in Thailand shared a Lego-themed meme portraying a US airman trapped behind enemy lines.
Later, the Iranian consulate in Hyderabad, India, added to the mockery after Trump extended his deadline concerning the Strait of Hormuz, tweeting about the ongoing postponement of the timeframe.
On Sunday, Trump issued a threat to “blow up” Iran if the country did not reach a peace agreement with the US by Tuesday.
