On Monday, Raghav Chadha, a Member of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), posted a mysterious update on Instagram amidst ongoing tensions with his party members regarding his actions in Parliament. The conflict escalated when Chadha lost his position as the deputy leader of the AAP in the Rajya Sabha, a role now taken over by Ashok Mittal.
Although Chadha did not explicitly address the controversy in his latest social media post, the book he chose to feature and a particular excerpt captured attention, suggesting connections to the current political climate. This post is part of a broader pattern of recent communications from Chadha, which include both straightforward defenses and more nuanced, symbolic expressions.
The image displayed Chadha relaxing in a garden while reading “The 48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene. In his caption, he remarked, “Somebody gifted me a book this week. Funny how timing works.” A subsequent slide echoed a similar sentiment, stating, “The timing is hard to ignore.” In a third slide, he emphasized the book’s opening chapter, titled “Law 1: Never Outshine the Master,” which advises against overshadowing those in positions of authority.
This particular excerpt suggests that ensuring superiors feel secure can enhance one’s influence. It reads, “Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please and impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite inspire fear and insecurity. Make your masters appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power.”
Sources within the AAP previously informed the Indian Express that Chadha had been absent during critical moments, particularly during the party’s display of strength following the release of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia from jail in connection with the excise policy case in late February. They noted that Chadha had become increasingly detached from the party and its leadership.
His recent post occurs against the backdrop of an ongoing public dispute within AAP, where Chadha has been criticized by party leaders in both Delhi and Punjab for allegedly failing to adequately challenge the central government and for not voicing state issues effectively in Parliament. Key figures questioning his commitment include former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
In response to these criticisms, Chadha has shared a video montage of his speeches, claiming he has consistently addressed concerns related to Punjab and labeling the accusations as “lies.” He emphasized that Punjab embodies more than just a political matter for him; it represents “my home, my duty, my soil, my soul.”
As of now, the AAP has not issued an official statement regarding Chadha’s Instagram post.
