A tragic incident in Mandurah, located south of Perth, has resulted in the death of an 11-year-old boy following a collision between his e-scooter and a car.
Emergency responders were alerted to the accident on Mandurah Terrace, near Stewart Street, at approximately 5:10 PM yesterday. According to the police, the child’s e-scooter collided with a Mazda sedan.
The boy suffered severe injuries and was immediately transported to Peel Health Campus; however, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old man, remained at the scene and is currently cooperating with the authorities as they conduct their investigation.
The Major Crash Section is looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident and has appealed to the public for any dash-cam or mobile phone footage that may be relevant to the investigation. They encourage anyone with information to reach out to Crime Stoppers.
This incident adds to a concerning trend, as it follows a recent spate of fatalities on Western Australian roads, where four individuals lost their lives in separate accidents over the Easter holiday period.
Among those fatalities, a 34-year-old man died early Monday morning after the vehicle he was in crashed into a tree on Hayman Road in Como, situated in Perth’s southern suburbs. Additionally, three individuals lost their lives on Thursday, including a 14-year-old boy who was hit by a car while riding his off-road motorcycle in Bedfordale, approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Perth.
