A mother of eight from Victoria, who tragically lost her life in a head-on collision in Logan, south of Brisbane, has been fondly remembered by her relatives as a source of light and positivity in their lives.
Roza Abebwa, aged 51, passed away following an accident involving her vehicle and a utility truck on Saturday evening.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ms. Abebwa was involved in the fatal crash shortly after attending her grandchild’s birthday celebration. The collision occurred around 9:00 PM on School Road at Logan Reserve, when the Ford Focus hatchback she was in collided with a ute. Unfortunately, she died at the scene.
Her two-year-old daughter and 28-year-old niece, who was behind the wheel, were taken to a hospital but have since recovered from their injuries.
Rashidi Edward, Ms. Abebwa’s son, described his mother as a nurturing figure who brought safety and comfort to those around her. “She was the kind of person who made you feel secure, acknowledged, and cared for,” he remarked. “She had a knack for making people laugh, even during tough times, and always prioritized her children and others above herself.”
Mr. Edward expressed the profound loss felt by their family, stating, “She wasn’t just our mother; she was a mother to many. Our love for her is beyond what words can convey.” He added that life would be forever altered without her, noting, “She was our foundation, our strength, and our home.”
In regard to the crash, police preliminary findings suggest that the ute was traveling at a high speed and crossed into oncoming traffic while attempting to overtake three vehicles before the collision occurred. The four teenage passengers in the Ford Falcon were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the 17-year-old driver underwent testing for drugs or alcohol.
On Sunday, Acting Inspector Peter Venz of the Queensland Police indicated that authorities were looking into a possible connection between the ute and a large “hooning event” that reportedly took place in the area on Saturday night. Inspector Venz also mentioned that officers were investigating claims that the Ford Falcon was unregistered and lacked license plates.
No charges have been filed as investigations are ongoing.
