On Monday, the Punjab government appointed Sharad Satya Chauhan, a senior IPS officer, to lead the vigilance bureau. Chauhan, previously serving as the Special DGP and managing director of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation, has now been designated as the Special DGP and Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau. He takes over the position from P K Sinha, also an IPS officer from the 1994 batch, who is moving to the role of Officer on Special Duty for law and order. Chauhan will officially assume his new responsibilities on May 1, following the retirement of Arpit Shukla.
According to an official communication from the Department of Home Affairs, Ram Singh, a Special DGP from the 1994 batch currently overseeing Technical Support Services, has been assigned additional duties as the Special DGP and Commandant General of the Punjab Home Guards, as well as Director of Civil Defence.
In a related administrative shift, Arun Pal Singh, an officer from the 1997 batch, has been appointed as the managing director of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation, taking over from Chauhan.
Additionally, R K Jaiswal, an ADGP responsible for NRI Affairs, has been given the extra role of ADGP for Jails. Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, a Deputy Inspector General from the 2011 batch who works with the Anti-Gangster Task Force, has been assigned to the Punjab DGP’s office until further notice.
In a separate directive, the Punjab government has reassigned 12 IAS officers, including four deputy commissioners. Notably, Himanshu Aggarwal has been appointed as the deputy commissioner of Patiala, succeeding Varjeet Walia, who now takes on the role of deputy commissioner for Jalandhar.
Amit Kumar Panchal has been designated as deputy commissioner for Muktsar Sahib, while Akash Bansal has been assigned as the deputy commissioner for Kapurthala. Senior IAS officer Vikas Pratap has been appointed as the additional chief secretary for technical education and industry training, while Sumer Singh Gurjar has taken on the role of principal secretary for defence services welfare.
Furthermore, IAS officer Babita, currently serving as commissioner of agriculture, will also oversee the Ferozepur division. Jaspreet Singh has been appointed as the director of industries and commerce, and Abhijeet Kaplish will serve as the director of mines and geology. Jasbir Singh has been named additional secretary for general administration and coordination.
Kanwarpreet Brar has been appointed as secretary for health and family welfare, commissioner of food and drugs, and will also take on the additional role of Additional Divisional Commissioner for Faridkot. Harpreet Singh Sudan has been installed as the director of sports and youth affairs, along with the additional responsibility of managing director of PSIEC. Tejdeep Singh Saini (PCS) has been designated as the Additional Deputy Commissioner for Urban Development in Jalandhar.
