Punjab Arrest Unveils Network Assisting Pakistani Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir Infiltration

The police in Jammu and Kashmir have reportedly dismantled an inter-state module associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and have taken five individuals into custody, including two Pakistani nationals and three local accomplices.

This extensive operation, which spanned over two weeks, involved collaboration with central agencies and culminated in the apprehension of a Lashkar commander named Abu Huraira.

Huraira and his associate, Usman, were captured in Malerkotla, Punjab, by a specialized team from the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) over ten days ago. The arrests were facilitated by a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, which directed authorities to the militant’s hideout in Punjab.

According to police sources, Huraira is a prominent Lashkar commander who entered the Kashmir Valley in 2010. After years of activity in the region, he reportedly vanished from surveillance and established a concealed base in Punjab.

Following their capture, SOG teams from Jammu and Kashmir conducted raids across various locations in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir. These operations resulted in the questioning of several individuals. In addition to the two Pakistani nationals, three residents from Srinagar were arrested for their alleged involvement in assisting Huraira and Usman.

Authorities indicate that the apprehended militants were integral to an inter-state network that facilitated the arrival of Pakistani terrorists and supported their transit into Jammu and Kashmir. Reports suggest that this group has managed over 40 militants, playing a key role in perpetuating militancy in the region.

Investigators are also looking into the possibility that one of the arrested individuals may have forged Indian travel documents and left the country under a legitimate visa.

The police are continuing their investigation into the connections—both upstream and downstream—of this terror module, with further arrests anticipated in the near future.
