The government of Uttar Pradesh has given its approval for the creation of a new private university in Greater Noida, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing higher education options in the region, according to officials.
This decision, which involves the establishment of ‘Metro University,’ was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Yogendra Upadhyay, the Higher Education Minister, indicated that this approval falls under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act of 2019, which governs the establishment, regulation, and functioning of private universities within the state.
The proposal was brought forth by Sunhill Healthcare Pvt Ltd, based in Noida, which has been allocated 26.1 acres of land by the Greater Noida Authority for this purpose.
The minister further noted that the state will issue the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, along with a letter of authorization to the sponsoring organization, allowing for the university’s establishment and operational activities.
Upadhyay expressed optimism that the new university will offer enhanced opportunities for quality higher education and will provide modern, job-oriented learning pathways for the youth in the region.
