Jewelry Store Struck by Suspected Arson for the Second Time in Two Days on Gold Coast

Authorities have reported a deliberate act involving a vehicle crashing into a jewellery store on the Gold Coast, followed by the car being set ablaze overnight.

This incident marks the second suspected arson case in just two days. Law enforcement officials are appealing to the public for any witnesses or individuals with dash cam footage to come forward with information.

Gold Coast police are currently looking into the incident, which occurred early this morning when a car was driven into a jewellery shop located in Burleigh Heads. Emergency services arrived at the scene on James Street around 2:40 AM.

According to police, the vehicle was intentionally crashed into the storefront and subsequently ignited. The fire caused significant damage to the shop; however, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries reported, and they have yet to determine if any items were taken from the premises.

Bill Jefferie, the building manager, informed ABC that he was alerted to the fire around 6:30 AM. He noted that the extent of the damage to the jewellery shop remains unclear at this time. “I can’t see much. I think they hit the staircase, that’s about it,” he remarked.

A crime scene has been established, and investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses relevant video footage to assist in their inquiries.

As of now, police have not established any connection between this incident and another fire that occurred yesterday, where three individuals allegedly crashed a vehicle into a car wash in Arundel and set it on fire.

In that earlier incident, the building sustained considerable damage due to the fire, which was reportedly started with an unknown accelerant around 1 AM. Firefighters took approximately an hour to manage the blaze, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Acting Superintendent Jason Tuffley indicated that the suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle driven by a fourth individual. “A crime scene was set up, and investigations are ongoing,” he stated. “We encourage anyone with information about this incident or any related footage, particularly if they were in the vicinity at the time, to contact the police.”
