Worksafe Launches Inquiry into Deadly Incident on Western Australia Mine Access Route

A tragic accident in the Goldfields region of Western Australia has resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man and serious injuries to a 32-year-old man. The incident occurred early yesterday morning on an access road leading to the King of the Hills gold mine, located over 850 kilometers northeast of Perth.

According to the Western Australia Police’s Major Crash division, the two men were traveling within a mining tenement when their vehicle lost control and rolled. The exact cause of the loss of control is still under investigation.

Emergency services pronounced the 38-year-old passenger dead at the scene, while the 32-year-old driver was transported to Kalgoorlie Health Campus for medical attention.

Vault Minerals, the owner of the mine, confirmed in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange that the deceased individual was an employee of Delta FM, a facility management service contracted for catering at the King of the Hills site. Following the incident, Vault Minerals announced a temporary halt to operations at the site to facilitate ongoing investigations by authorities, with work expected to resume on Wednesday.

WorkSafe has also initiated an investigation focusing on the work-related aspects of the accident. A representative from the organization stated that their team had visited the site but could not provide further details as the investigation remains active.

In light of this unfortunate event, WorkSafe’s Commissioner, Sally North, expressed her condolences to all those affected. Additionally, Major Crash Investigators continue to assess the scene and are appealing to anyone with relevant information or video footage to reach out to Crime Stoppers.
