Iran has asserted that the United States has consented to acknowledge its ongoing authority over the Strait of Hormuz as part of a proposed “10-point plan” aimed at establishing a ceasefire, a claim reported by Iranian state television.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire, which Iran views as a significant achievement, stating that the U.S. has accepted its “10-point proposal.” This plan includes Iran’s control over the strategic waterway and acceptance of its enrichment activities, as detailed by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, according to reports from state media.
The council remarked that the regulated transit through the strait would occur “in coordination with Iran’s armed forces,” as cited by CNN.
The ceasefire was finalized just 90 minutes before Trump’s deadline for the U.S.-Iran agreement was set to expire. Trump emphasized that the ceasefire hinges on Iran agreeing to halt its blockade of oil and gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply.
Trump indicated that Iran’s proposal provided a “workable basis” for ongoing negotiations, expressing optimism that a comprehensive agreement could be reached during the two-week ceasefire period.
“This will be a mutually beneficial ceasefire!” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform. He explained that the decision was made after consultations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
“Following discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who requested that I delay military action against Iran, and contingent upon Iran’s full, immediate, and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, I have decided to pause the bombing campaign against Iran for two weeks,” he stated.
Iran’s 10-point plan includes key commitments from the United States, which are as follows:
- Non-aggression
- Recognition of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz
- Acceptance of Iran’s enrichment activities
- Lifting all primary sanctions
- Lifting all secondary sanctions
- Cancellation of all UN Security Council resolutions
- Cancellation of all IAEA Board of Governors resolutions
- Compensation payments to Iran
- Withdrawal of U.S. military forces from the region
- Ending military actions on all fronts, including against the Lebanese Islamic Resistance.
