Ajay Devgn’s absence marks a significant shift as Rohit Shetty alters two-decade Golmaal legacy for Akshay Kumar’s franchise introduction.

Director Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal series has garnered significant popularity among fans. Recently, excitement surged when Shetty unveiled plans for the fifth installment of the franchise, which promises to bring back familiar faces and introduce Akshay Kumar into the mix. However, this new chapter appears to break a longstanding tradition associated with the series. Reports suggest that Golmaal 5 will not feature a leading lady, nor will there be any romantic subplot involving Ajay Devgn’s character.

In previous films, Devgn’s character has been involved in romantic storylines with actresses such as Rimi Sen, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Parineeti Chopra. However, a recent Variety India report indicates that Golmaal 5 will diverge from this pattern. Although actress Priyamani will appear in the film, her role will not include a romantic connection. The reasons behind Shetty’s decision to forgo this established element in the franchise remain unclear. The report further claims that this installment is being touted as the most ambitious entry in the series to date.

Alongside Ajay Devgn, Golmaal 5 will feature Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, Sharman Joshi, and Shreyas Talpade. Akshay Kumar is expected to play a comedic antagonist in the film. Additionally, reports indicate that Rohit Shetty aims to expand beyond the prank-centric humor that has characterized previous installments.

Shetty introduced the initial glimpse of Golmaal 5 on his birthday last month. In his social media post, he expressed gratitude to the audience, stating, “Twenty years ago, the first Golmaal was released, a film that changed my life. The credit goes to you, my audience. Over the past two decades, we have entertained you and sometimes disappointed you, but we have always remained honest in our work. Now, my incredible team and I are embarking on a journey to entertain you once again as we begin filming G5. Your support has always meant the world to us. We ask for your blessings. See you at the movies.”

In response to the announcement, actor Ranveer Singh described it as “Mazedaar,” while Varun Dhawan added, “Kya baat hain.” TV star Arjit Taneja expressed enthusiasm with “Let’s go,” and comedian Ashish Chanchlani remarked, “Bday aapka hai gift humko de rahe ho. This is sooo exciting, Sharman? Akki? What are YOU COOKING BOSSS.”

The film is currently in production, with plans for a release in 2027.
