Rex Heuermann, the individual accused of being the serial killer associated with Gilgo Beach in New York, may be contemplating a change in his plea to guilty during his upcoming court date on Wednesday, according to sources close to the case who spoke to ABC News.
Heuermann, an architect based in New York City, was taken into custody in 2023 and has consistently maintained his innocence regarding the murders of seven women, whose remains were discovered on Long Island.
His trial is scheduled to commence in September.
The first victim identified was Sandra Costilla, who was murdered in 1993. Valerie Mack was killed in 2000, while Jessica Taylor met the same fate in 2003. The partial remains of both Taylor and Mack were located in proximity to Gilgo Beach and in Manorville, whereas Costilla’s remains were found in North Sea, also on Long Island.
Additionally, Maureen Brainard-Barnes was murdered in 2007, with her remains found near Gilgo Beach. The other victims, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Lynn Costello, were killed between 2009 and 2010, and their remains were also recovered in the vicinity of Gilgo Beach.
