The Nashik city police have apprehended six individuals in connection with allegations of mental and sexual harassment against female employees at an international corporation. Authorities have filed nine First Information Reports (FIRs) related to these accusations, which encompass charges of sexual harassment as well as violations of religious sentiments.
A senior police official stated, “We have initiated FIRs based on the complaints submitted to us. However, not all claims have been substantiated thus far. We will evaluate the evidence collected to determine the next steps.” The officer declined to disclose specific details regarding the allegations, citing the sensitivity of the issue.
Five of the suspects, detained on Tuesday, were presented in a local court on Wednesday, where they were remanded into police custody until April 10. An official noted that one of the accused is already in judicial custody.
Following directives from Nashik City Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Mitke, to investigate the cases.
This development comes on the heels of the arrest of self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat, who was charged with rape and sexual exploitation by Nashik Police last month.
In a related note, the police commissioner has urged any women who experience molestation or sexual assault to reach out for help. Complaints can be sent via WhatsApp to the number 9923323311 or to the control room at 112. He assured that the identities of complainants and their respective institutions will remain confidential.
