Walt Disney is set to eliminate up to 1,000 jobs in the near future, with a significant number of these cuts targeting the marketing division, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, which referenced insider information. The initiative for these layoffs was reportedly in motion prior to Josh D’Amaro taking over as CEO of Disney in March.
The anticipated job reductions represent less than 1% of the company’s total workforce. As of the conclusion of fiscal year 2025, Disney had approximately 231,000 employees. The newly appointed chief marketing officer, Asad Ayaz, is also working on consolidating the marketing team and streamlining costs through a program dubbed Project Imagine, as noted in the report. Ayaz has been in charge of a newly established, comprehensive marketing framework since January.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm the information at this time. Additionally, Disney has not provided a comment to Reuters outside of regular business hours.
