A man who was the subject of a wanted notice is currently in critical condition following a citizen’s arrest that took place near Murwillumbah.
Reports suggest that the individual exhibited suspicious behavior in the vicinity of residential properties, prompting residents to intervene.
Authorities are appealing for any witnesses to step forward with information.
The man, who was wanted by law enforcement, sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident on the New South Wales north coast and is still in critical condition.
The police are seeking information to clarify the events that led to the man’s serious injuries. They received a call early yesterday morning regarding a suspicious individual on a street in Bray Park.
Detective Sergeant Gary Sheehan from the Tweed Byron command noted, “A male was observed behaving suspiciously by nearby residents. They approached him, which resulted in an altercation.”
Upon arrival at Bellevue Avenue, officers found the 34-year-old man injured. “As a consequence of the altercation, the individual exhibiting suspicious behavior sustained severe, life-threatening injuries. There are indications that objects may have been involved, but I cannot disclose specific details as this is currently under investigation,” the detective added.
An off-duty police officer, along with bystanders, provided first aid until paramedics arrived, and the injured man was subsequently transported to the hospital.
It has been revealed that the man was previously known to law enforcement and had 12 outstanding warrants against him. An aerial search for him was conducted in the Bray Park area the day before the incident.
Police stated that despite extensive efforts, they had been unable to locate him prior to this encounter. “This individual has come to police attention on numerous occasions. We were actively pursuing him due to his 12 outstanding warrants. Our last interaction with him was the day before, but he managed to evade capture despite our thorough efforts in the area,” the police reported.
Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward.
