A tragic incident occurred early Thursday morning on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where a 26-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a tractor during a temple procession. The victim, identified as Harish P., resided in Banashankari and was preparing for his wedding scheduled for April 29 and 30.
Harish had gone to visit a friend in Hulimavu to distribute wedding invitations and chose to remain to enjoy a local temple fair. The accident took place around 5 a.m. during a procession honoring the deity Muthuraya Swamy.
According to police reports, the tractor, which was transporting the idol down a sloped road, reportedly lost control. The vehicle descended rapidly, striking Harish against a compound wall and seriously injuring him.
Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries en route. The driver of the tractor fled the scene following the collision.
Initial investigations indicate that the driver may have been negligent. Authorities have filed a case and are actively working to locate the suspect, who is reportedly known to local residents.
In response to the tragedy, Harish’s family and friends held a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, calling for stringent action against the driver and urging accountability from the procession organizers.
The police have stated that they are continuing their investigation into the matter.
