Aamir Khan has earned a reputation for his straightforwardness, both in his acting career and his personal life. He is open about the creative challenges his films face and is unafraid to admit when a project does not meet expectations. This transparency has also influenced his personal experiences, including his separation from his second wife, Kiran Rao, and his new relationship with Gauri Spratt. Recently, he spoke candidly about the emotional turmoil he faced during the aftermath of his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta.
In a recent conversation on the show Duologue with Barun Das, Aamir Khan shared how his first divorce became a pivotal moment in his life. He revealed that it was during this challenging time that he began to drink alcohol, a habit he had previously avoided. “I had never consumed alcohol until my first divorce with Reena. On the day she left with the children, I found myself alone and overwhelmed by my emotions. I had only ever drunk for a couple of scenes in films, but I was not someone who typically drank,” he explained.
He continued, “That night, I had some alcohol at home meant for guests, so I ended up drinking. For the next year and a half, I found myself consuming nearly a bottle each night. This was a drastic change for someone who had always been a teetotaller.”
Earlier, during an episode of Koffee with Karan, Aamir had discussed the emotional impact of his separation from Reena Dutta, highlighting that their relationship remained respectful despite their divorce. “Reena and I were together for 16 years. Our separation was traumatic for both us and our families. We tried to navigate through it as best as we could. Despite the split, we did not lose love or respect for each other,” he remarked.
After his divorce from Reena, Aamir married Kiran Rao in 2005, with whom he welcomed a son, Azad. However, the couple announced their separation in 2021 after 16 years of marriage. Currently, Aamir maintains a cordial relationship with both of his ex-wives and actively co-parents his children, while also embracing a new chapter in his life with Gauri Spratt.
