On Thursday, the Central Government officially enacted the Central Armed Police Forces (General) Administration Act following the approval of President Droupadi Murmu.
This new legislation was made public in the Gazette by the Ministry of Law and Justice on the same day.
The Act is designed to establish a “comprehensive and uniform system” for Group A General Duty officers and other members of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), which include the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB. It aims to standardize various aspects such as recruitment procedures, service conditions, administrative roles, and operational guidelines, which cater specifically to the unique needs of these forces.
The government underscored the crucial role of CAPFs in ensuring national security, particularly in areas like border defense and internal security throughout the Union and its states. It highlighted that these forces operate under a strict command and control framework, with operational requirements that differ from those of other organizations.
In response to the new legislation, families of active paramilitary personnel and veterans gathered in protest at Rajghat in Central Delhi on Thursday.
