A tragic accident involving a bus carrying British tourists in the Canary Islands has resulted in one fatality and left 27 individuals hospitalized, according to local authorities.

The crash occurred at 1:15 PM local time on Friday, when the bus veered off the GM-2 highway and plunged into a ravine near San Sebastián de La Gomera.

Reports from local media indicate that the bus was on its way to a boat excursion. Among the injured, three individuals are reported to be in critical condition. Authorities stated, “Emergency medical services responded promptly to the scene, attending to all 28 individuals on board, which included 27 British tourists and the driver. Regrettably, we can confirm that one man has lost his life, while 27 others suffered injuries of varying severity, with three being classified as serious. All have been taken to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe for treatment.”

There were 25 adults, along with three children, on the bus at the time of the incident. The most critically injured passenger was transported to a hospital on the nearby island of Tenerife, while the remaining injured were treated at the local hospital in La Gomera.

Fernando Clavijo, the president of the Canary Islands, expressed his concern, stating, “I am closely monitoring the bus accident reported in La Gomera and the efforts of the emergency teams currently responding. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has been reached for further comments regarding the incident.
