Delhi Insider: Uncommon Day of Rest

During a meeting led by BJP national president Nitin Nabin at the party headquarters on Friday, several state unit leaders and in-charges were notably absent. According to sources, officials from states currently facing elections were not required to attend the gathering. What caught the attention of many within the BJP was the unexpected exemption that extended beyond leaders from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, where voting has yet to occur, to include those from Assam and Kerala, despite the latter’s elections being completed. This decision allowed these individuals a respite following their extensive campaigning efforts. Such an occurrence is unusual for the BJP, which typically begins preparations for future objectives immediately after elections conclude.

In Rajasthan, the party is engaged in a different type of dialogue related to the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Individuals who faced defeats in the 2023 Assembly elections, along with those who lost in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections—where the BJP’s representation dropped from 25 to 14 seats—are now vying for nominations to the Upper House. Aspiring candidates are actively discussing their chances and are reportedly making subtle appeals for support when meeting with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Ultimately, the decision on candidates will rest with the party’s central leadership.
