Tragic Blaze Claims Life and Engulfs Home in Southern Brisbane

A tragic incident occurred in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, where a man lost his life and a house was completely engulfed in flames.

Emergency responders were alerted to the fire at the intersection of Foote and Annear streets shortly after 1 PM on Saturday. Upon their arrival, they found the man inside the residence, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The single-story home was entirely destroyed by the blaze. Four firefighting units, along with specialized teams and drones, were deployed to the site, and they managed to contain the fire around 1:45 PM.

Authorities have closed Foote Street between Mortimer Road and Annear Street to facilitate the emergency response. Local residents have been advised to stay indoors and keep their windows shut, while drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

A crime scene has been established as investigations continue.

Neighbor Kazem Abdulahi described the fire as “huge.” He recounted how his brother, a friend, and another neighbor attempted to rescue the man trapped inside but were unable to do so. “They smashed the door and tried to enter, but the fire was overwhelming. The flames were so intense that the ceiling collapsed, preventing them from getting inside,” he explained.

Mr. Abdulahi also noted that firefighters faced similar challenges when they attempted to access the building. “When they broke in, the fire surged out, making it impossible for them to enter. It was a terrible situation,” he stated, expressing his sorrow over the loss. “He was a very nice guy.”
