Renowned playback singer Asha Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday evening. Sources informed PTI that the 92-year-old artist was hospitalized due to a cardiac arrest and associated pulmonary issues.

Asha Bhosle is celebrated as one of the most iconic figures in Indian music, boasting a career that has thrived for over seventy years. Initially overshadowed by her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar, she forged a unique identity characterized by her bold, playful, and remarkably versatile singing style.

What distinguishes Asha Bhosle is her remarkable ability to seamlessly navigate various music genres. From romantic ballads to vibrant cabaret tunes, as well as ghazals and pop hits, she has accomplished it all. Collaborations with music composers like O. P. Nayyar resulted in timeless classics such as “Aao Huzoor Tumko,” while her work with R. D. Burman produced unforgettable tracks like “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko.”

Asha infused a novel energy and sensuality into songs like “Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja” and “Yeh Mera Dil,” significantly transforming the landscape of film music during the 1960s and 70s. Concurrently, she showcased her versatility through classical and semi-classical pieces such as “In Aankhon Ki Masti” and “Dil Cheez Kya Hai,” demonstrating her mastery of traditional styles.
