A 28-year-old man, along with two 24-year-old associates, has been apprehended and charged following a police pursuit involving a vehicle suspected of being used for criminal activities in western Sydney.
Authorities discovered firearms and counterfeit license plates during a search of the allegedly stolen Audi.
All three individuals have been denied bail and are scheduled to appear in the Bail Division Local Court on Sunday.
The incident began when detectives from the Raptor Squad attempted to intercept a stolen Audi on the Great Western Highway in Wentworthville around 2 PM on Saturday, leading to a chase through several neighborhoods.
During the pursuit, police reported that the suspects were observed discarding fuel containers and bleach bottles from the vehicle.
Law enforcement officials managed to stop the vehicle by ramming it on Hill Road in Lidcombe, prompting the suspects to attempt to escape on foot.
With assistance from the PolAir unit and the Dog Squad, police were able to apprehend all three men shortly thereafter.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found a semi-automatic rifle, a handgun, and cloned registration plates, all of which were confiscated.
Police confirmed that the Audi had been reported stolen from Edmonson Park in March.
In the aftermath of the pursuit, the trio faces multiple charges including possession of an unregistered and prohibited firearm, possession of an unauthorized pistol in a public place, possession of ammunition without a license, and involvement in a criminal group contributing to illegal activities.
The 28-year-old driver has been charged with additional offenses, including driving a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent and engaging in a police pursuit that involved reckless driving.
This individual also had two outstanding warrants related to assault and domestic violence.
The two 24-year-old men have been charged with being carried in a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent.
All three suspects were denied bail and are set to appear in the Bail Division Local Court today.
